When my son was turning 11, he asked to take his friends to an escape room AND to go swim.

In October.

Like most parents, I wanted to fulfill his birthday wish! But seriously? Escape rooms for a group can be pricey on their own, and we don't have a pool.

For weeks leading up to his birthday, I worked on the storyline and props and had everything gathered in advance. When we showed up, I checked in while the kids waited in the car. It only took me about 10 minutes to set up once I was in the room!

I even worked cake and ice cream into the storyline so it would have a reason to already be in the hotel room. The kids had a blast cracking the case and then going for a swim.
